Allen was a devoted husband and father and adored his six beautiful grandchildren. In 1960-61, Allen served as Queens County Commander of the Jewish War Veterans. (pictured). His caring ways were reflected in his work as a New York State Claims Supervisor with the Division of Veterans Affairs. He was honored many times in that capacity. He helped the veterans in need to secure their benefits as well as assisting the widows and families in their time of need. Twenty-eight years of service gained him the respect of all that he met. After his retirement from the State, he continued to serve by accepting the position of National Service Officer with the Department of New York Jewish War Veterans. Allen was a mentor to many, in not only the Jewish War Veterans but the American Legion as well. He was Fair-minded, gave his opinion when asked and respected by his peers. He was a parliamentarian. Allen will always be remembered as a good friend. Allen enjoyed his retirement in Florida for 10 years. He joined JWV in Florida as a dual member, with his primary membership in New York. He was active in his community as well, serving on his condominium board as treasurer for five years and a member of “COPS” (Citizen Observers Patrol). He enjoyed playing poker twice a week and the occasional trip to Atlantic City or Biloxi to play the poker machines. Planning a distant automobile trip pleased him as he enjoyed vacationing by car.
