Sam served as a PFC from early 1942 until the end of WW2 as a radio repairman in the Signal Corps 955 in England. Upon returning from service, Sam became involved with strengthening the Jewish community through active participation in Jewish War Veterans, Israel Bonds, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was the President of Western Pennsylvania Council B'nai Brith in 1960-1961. Sam also served in different capacities at Poale Zedeck Synagogue, in Squirrel Hill, (Pittsburgh). Through the efforts of Sam, two War Memorials were erected in his hometown of Swissvale, PA. to honor and memorialize those who served in WW2, Korea and Vietnam. Sam remained active serving his Jewish and secular communities and until his passing at age 96 on February 3, 2013.
