Leonard Clare enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. During his service he directed artillery fire from OP and kept communications between Inf. and Art. He used the m-1 rifle, carbine, cal 50 mg and grenades. He also cleared mine fields. He performed these actions in N. Africa, Sicily, Italy, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He also served in England, Wales, France and Luxemburg. As a paratrooper he jumped from planes behind enemy lines.
