Jack Friedman - Private First Class. Love of family, understanding, patience, and contentment were the mainstay of Jack's life. Jack was born in Newark, New Jersey, October 8, 1924 to Deborah and Nathan Friedman. He attended elementary school in Newark, graduating from Weequahic High at age 17. Jack was inducted into the United States Army and assigned to the 294th Engineers Company "A" Combat Battalion. Jack served in Normandy, at the Battle of the Bulge, in Northern France, the Ardennes and in Central Europe. He drove trucks and jeeps carrying military equipment and personnel convoys under combat conditions at night, during blackouts, over all types of rough terrain, in addition to servicing vehicles enroute. In December of 1947, Jack married his Joan; they met through wartime correspondence. Their special joy was their lovely daughter Nancy, born in 1955. They took further delight in being loving grandparents to their grandson Jared, born in 1985. Jack died at home after a long illness, December 14, 2007. His memory will live forever.
