Donald Owitz enlisted in the Army on his 17th birthday, October 15, 1948. He was wounded in Korea on November 28, 1950; a gun shot wound to his left thigh, and received the Purple Heart Medal. He also received the Combat Infantry Badge and Korean Service Medal. He received an honorable discharge from the army on August 6, 1952. The Army Signal Corp gave him an education in electronics that became his career as an engineer with ABC-TV World News. He retired in 1989 after 20 years traveling across the globe covering the news. He is survived by Rosalind, his wife of 54 years, his daughter Elaine, his son Alan, and five grandchildren.
