Murray (Morris) Bleiweiss was a long time resident of the Town of Huntington on Long Island, New York. As commander of Post 488, the Jewish Veterans was recognized as a strong advocate of veteran’s rights among the local and County politicians. As Suffolk Action Committee chairman of the Nassau- Suffolk District Council, his was the first voice raised in defense or support of veterans of Jews. Murray lead his Post in supporting the volunteer activities at the Northport VAMC bringing great solace to handicapped veterans and especially to Jewish patients. Murray became seriously ill and after many months, found himself a patient at the Northport VA Nursing Home. Regular visits from his fellow JWV’ers kept his spirits from lagging as he was wheeled to the weekly Shabbat services at the nursing home. At his death, the Nassau- Suffolk District Council was proud to underwrite his Yahrzeit Memorial at the NMAJMH.
