National Commander Morton L. London was the Permanent Observer at the United Nations for JWV, and a member of the Policy Committee and the Board of Directors of the National Shrine to the Jewish War Dead. He served as the first Commander of the West New York, New Jersey Post 467, Hudson County Commander, and he rose through the ranks to become a National Vice Commander. In 1954, he was the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, of which he had been a member for twelve years. He had also served as a National Co-Inspector and chairman of National and Department awards committees. He was active in many organizations as was a member of Shaare Zedek Synagogue of West New York, New Jersey, as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Community Center in Teaneck. He was vice chairman of North Hudson United Jewish Appeal, vice chairman of the North Hudson Israel Bond Committee and industry chairman of the American Red Cross. He was a member of Teaneck Post 128 of the American Legion and was formerly a member of the National Council of Young Israel. National Commander London was a graduate of Brooklyn schools and held a B.A. degree from Brooklyn College and a L.L.B. from St. Lawrence University. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1941. He served five and one-half years in the Armed Forces, serving overseas in Guadalcanal and France. His rank was First Lieutenant in the field artillery. He was in the textile yarn business, associated with his family in the London Yarn Company as Treasurer, and in Randimor Textile Company as President. He was married to the former Shirley Kohan of New York and has two sons, Henry and Jan.
