In 1942, During World War II, 1st Lt. Moe Wolf flew 50 missions as a bombardier in the nose of a B24 Liberator. He was based in North Africa. There were just two bomber groups, the 98th, and his group the 376th. On the first Poleiste air raid, he was replaced by another bombardier. That bomber did not make it back. Several times he was replaced by another bombardier. Those planes also did not come back. He said it wasn’t his time. His group was awarded the Unit Citation with 2 clusters and he received the Bronze Star for meritorious performance under fire.
