Each August we would pack up my father's new blue Pontiac and head off to a fancy hotel in the Catskills for the Mid-Summer meeting of the Department of New York Jewish War Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary. The trunk would be full of toys and candies for "Cornie's Pals", a party for the children of the members which he made on Saturday afternoon. My father, Cornelius Schneider would profess, " I am a much better veteran than a soldier." He graduated NYU School of Commerce, became a CPA and a politician behind the scenes. He knew how important our government was to the veteran and that the veteran's vote counted. My dad marched against the Neo-Nazi party, supported the state of Israel and lobbied for veteran's benefits. A man of integrity , a loving and devoted husband and a generous and thoughtful father and grandfather. Cornelius Schneider will always be remembered.
