After serving with distinction as a Private First Class in World War II, specializing in anti-aircraft artillery in Guam, the Philippines and Okinawa, Saul Rosenberg began civilian life. He met his wife on an ice-skating rink, was married on the television game show Bride and Groom, and was the proud father of two sons. He worked for approximately 53 years, almost to the age of 94 as a corrugated-carton salesman, only stopping due to the illness that ultimately claimed his life. In his early years, Saul played baseball and football throughout Manhattan and the Bronx, and was a proud member of a neighborhood organization known as the Pals. In his later years, he stayed active with bowling and tennis, a sport he took up with his companion of approximately 27 years (his loving wife passed away when Saul was approximately 66). He was very active with the Jewish War Veterans, rising to the position of New York Department Commander. He will be terribly missed by his son, his companion, his extended family, and anyone else lucky to know him.
