Martin Weichselbaum served in WWII in Africa, Italy, France & Germany, earning five major campaign stars, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart. He was on the Board of Trustees of the Men’s Club of Congregation Emanu-el and was a former Vice-President and Treasurer of the 36th Division Association. He is survived by his wife Shirley, and his daughters, Jill and Gwen.
Marty was more than a friend.
He was an inspiration to many if us.
He kept the sparks flying that accomplished so many things that others said couldn’t be done.
To Marty nothing was impossible.
If it was going to be beneficial to JWV and the Community it was worth trying.
Marty was the agent for revival of Post 42, and as such the name “Godfather” became synonymous with him throughout Westchester County.
Guest Pacs, Bingo, the presentation of an ambulance to Israel, fund raising for the West Point Chapel, the presentation of the first Torah to the Chapel at West Point, the thrill of hosting the West Point Jewish Chapel Choir for a weekend in Mount Vernon…. and many successful memorable affairs that have yet to have been topped.
All of this, and more, were recorded in Post 42’s 50th Anniversary Historical Journal that he so professionally designed and helped put together.
Marty had a knack for getting people involved.
He left his mark on so many of us.
He will truly be missed by the many people he touched.
