George Schonberg

At the age of 19, George Schonberg graduated from college, married his beloved Doris and enlisted in the Army. In his more than 4 years of active duty (43-47), he served in the 305th Signal Corps in England, France (Normandy), and Belgium (Battle of the Bulge). On his return to civil life, George went back to college to obtain his business degree. He became a CPA and was hired by a prestigious firm where he remained until he opened his own practice. With his family, George settled in Paramus, NJ, where he became active in the local Temple; The Jewish Community Center of Paramus. He devoted time and energy and became president. His intense absorption with Jewish affairs led him to a meaningful relationship with the JWV. First, as an accountant and then endeared himself to his local veteran buddies, all of whom respected him. Eventually he was made commander of his group. He continued to work with the JWV until his untimely death in 1995.
