Drafted July 7, 1941 discharged July 18, 1941, and re-enlisted. Basic training, Jefferson Barracks; Airplane Mechanics School, Chanute Field; airplane instructor, Greenville MS BT 13A Training Base. Service included June 1943, Ft. Meyer, FL, Aerial Gunnery School; August 1943, received wings, air crew training on B-24 Bomber, Casper WY; November 1943, arrived in England. 448th Bomber Gp. (H); January, 1944, commenced Combat missions flew waist and tail positions; June 4, 1944, completed 30th mission; August 2, 1944, arrived stateside, instructor on B-24 in Walla Walla, WA, until end of the war. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal w/3 OL-C's, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, ETO w/1 Battle Star and Victory Medal. Married Janet Austin August 1, 1942. Two children, Judy and Laura, and four grandsons, Josh, Barrett, Kevin and Brian.
