Boris Ballard served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army from 1951- 1953. He attended an NCO Academy conducted by the Battalion and was graduated as an Honor Student. He was awarded the following Military occupational specialties: High speed Radio Operator, and Fixed Station Radio Repairman. His over seas duty was in Germany serving with the 17th Signal Battalion, Radio operation Company as a Team Chief. He returned home to Washington, D.C. to work for National Produce Co., and eventually became its owner. He was proud of the fact that his wonderful produce was served at the White House, and many Washington restaurants.
