Technician grade 5, Tony Herlinger Baum entered the United States Army in December 1943. She immigrated to the United States from Munich, Germany in 1937 and was honorably discharged in October 1945. She served with distinction as a surgical Nurse in the Women's Army Corps, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. Her duty stations included Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, Army-Navy Hospital Hot Springs, Arkansas and at Camp Attebury, Indiana. Tony's civilian career was in the food service industry where she owned inns and cafeterias with her husband, as a telephone operator for Contoocook Valley Telephone Company, and managed the Hospitality Shop at Concord Regional Hospital, Concord, New Hampshire. She was active in the local community as president of the PTA. She was married to Rolf Baum and had two sons,both pilots; Lt. Col. Peter J., USAF retired and Col. Michael E., USAF retired.
