Murray directed preparation of reports, correspondence and military records during World War II during his military service in the U.S. Army. He kept a staff journal and a police file as well as taking care of all squadron orders as morning reports. He was the acting first sergeant serving in the Asiatic Pacific ( New Guinea) for three years.
